Category's Requirements:
Submit a complete issue of your print or digital publication that utilizes impeccable design to support the issue’s main editorial focus. Judges will examine how the design reflects the publication’s branding and mission, appropriateness for the industry served and, most importantly, the effectiveness of the overall design in supporting these. Cohesive typography from page to page, use of a color palette associated with the publication’s branding and appropriate to its mission, overall page composition built for readability and engagement, legibility and the ability to communicate useful information to the reader are important judging considerations.

This entry represents a highly intentional, data-driven design effort built to support Solar Power World’s most anticipated editorial package of the year: the Top Solar Contractors issue. The design challenge presents verified survey data from more than 400 contractors nationwide with clarity: transforming complex, multi-dimensional industry data into an issue that is immediately legible, engaging and useful to professionals working across the solar power industry.

The design goes above and beyond through its systematic visual structure. A cohesive color palette aligned with Solar Power World’s established brand identity and recognizable to the Top Solar Contractor’s brand carries readers through rankings, market breakdowns, state-by-state data and service categories, while consistent typography and grid systems ensure readability across dense tables and infographic-heavy spreads. Custom infographics were developed specifically for this issue, with help from Adobe Stock, to visualize survey insights by market segment, service type, geography and growth trends, allowing readers to quickly extract data in fun, readable structure.

What elevates this issue as a contender is the balance between scale and storytelling. In addition to the extensive rankings and charts, the Across America editorial profiles introduce a human layer—spotlighting standout contractors and regional successes—designed to visually break from data pages while maintaining Solar Power World’s typical typographic and compositional continuity. The result is an issue that functions both as an authoritative industry reference and a compelling narrative of national solar growth.

Overall, this single issue demonstrates how strong editorial design can translate complex industry data into an accessible, engaging experience—reinforcing Solar Power World’s mission to inform, recognize and connect the professionals driving the U.S. solar industry forward.
